YA MZUNGU KICHAA

Mzungu Kichaa (TZ/DK) performs with his Tanzanian band in Jinja, Uganda at the Bayimba Regional Festival on Saturday 5th of May. During his visit to Uganda Mzungu Kichaa accepted his invitation to join the DOADOA (East African Performing Arts Market) steering committee.

Mzungu Kichaa did a blinding show that left the Ugandan audience screaming for more at the regional Bayimba festival in Jinja Uganda last Saturday. “Its very important for me to perform in new territories such as Uganda so that I can sustain my music within East Africa. In Tanzania and Kenya I am a known artist but in Uganda not that many people know who Mzungu Kichaa is.” said the artist after his performance. “So to be received so well, was an amazing feeling”. Bayimba Festival is in the top 3, alongside other festivals in East Africa such as Sauti za Busara in Zanzibar and Sawa Sawa Festival in Kenya.

In the week before the festival Bayimba launched the first East African Performing Arts Market, called DOADOA. The 5 day event attracts musicians from all over the region. Mzungu Kichaa has accepted his invitation to join the DOADOA steering committee. “It is a big honor for me to have been given this position. As I’m the only artist on the committee I will do my best to represent my fellow artists in the best way possible. I was really happy to see so many Tanzanian participants at the DOADOA arts market, including 4 bands and delegates from Dar es Salaam and Arusha. There were also many participants from Kenya. The workshops were led by experienced tutors from the UK nonprofit organization Unconvention who enriched the participants in many areas of the performing arts”. DOADOA plans to hold workshops in Kenya and Tanzania in the future.
